My Thanksgiving eating marathon

My Thanksgiving weekend was a blast. It was 3 days spent with family and friends. It was also 3 days of food fest.

My Saturday was spent celebrating with my hubby's Dad's side of the family. It was nice to see everyone again and it was nice to see my DD interacting with everyone. The highlight of the night of course was the food. My father-in-law's wife makes such an awesome dinner every holiday and her desserts are so scrumptious. I look forward to having her trifle every time there is an occasion to celebrate.

Here's what I had:

3 thin slices of turkey breast
scoop of Mash potatoes and Squash
scoop of stuffing
topped it all of with delicious gravy

Dessert:
Berry Trifle (a biiiiigggg serving! but apparently no sugar added according to the recipe)
Pumpkin Pie with a cream cheese center (what's Thanksgiving without Pumpkin Pie?)

Then Sunday I spent the day at church since after the service, they had some lunch for the whole congregation to celebrate. My church is predominantly Filipino in population and of course they would serve Filipino Food most of the time.

For Church Lunch I had:

White Rice (about half cup)
Some Pork, Peas and Potatoes stew type of dish (I don't know what it's called)
Garden Salad
Grapes
Puto (little rice flour cake with cheese)

Then in the evening, we went over to my Mom's friend's house to celebrate yet again!!! This time there is no turkey or anything traditional thanksgiving dinner. It was all pure authentic Filipino Food. Which can be scary because I lllloooovvvveee my Filipino food, if I see it, I will gobble it all up.

For Sunday's Filipino Thanksgiving Dinner I had:

3 cube portions Lechon (ROASTED PIG!!! And yes there was an apple in the pig's mouth)
half cup of white rice
2 little slices of Embutido (Some sort of meat loaf type of dish but with ground chicken and more veggies in it)
2 Lumpia (spring roll with pork)

And for dessert I had:

Slice of Apple crumble pie (not exactly Filipino food but it was good!)
Scoop of some kind of Trifle looking dish but with tropical fruits (coconut and other things, lol I had no clue what it is but it was good)

And monday came I thought I was done with the Thanksgiving celebration. Then, my mother dear asked me to cook because they will have some company over (A little too late of a notice wasn't it?) ANYWAY, instead of being upset and panicky, I just said FINE! I WILL COOK, but obviously there will be no turkey. We went to a Chinese Grocery Store because they are the only store open on a Holiday Monday. I found some Cornish Hen and bought four of them.

So basically this is what I whipped up in a flash, I would like to call this my
SPEEDY THANKSGIVING DINNER:

Roasted Sage Cornish Hens
Chestnut and Cranberry Stuffing
Mashed Potatoes
Roasted Squash
Parmesan veggies (steamed broccoli, cauliflower and carrots and covered in parmesan cheese)
Gravy

I had a little of everything and my cornish hens turned out great. I was nervous they would turn out horrible since this was my first time cooking them. We didn't have any desserts but my Mom made some melon papaya smoothies for everyone. I love her smoothies, that why when her blender broke down a few months back, I bought her a replacement one just to have her smoothies.

Notice I don't have any pictures of the food.

Well, when you have a little toddler running around someone else's house which is full of breakable trinkets and is not childproof in any way, you would forget that you have a camera because you are scared to death that your child might break the Host's expensive Swarovski crystal display. Enough said.

  1. Hi! I came across your blog from littlepinkbutton.blogspot.com

Oh my... what a feast you must have had. But of course anyone who is of Asian hertiage (I'm Chinese) knows what holidays are about ... all about the eating!

Love the picture of your DD. She is so cute. My DD keeps me quite busy (17 months) so I don't have much time to exercise. I haven't exercised in about 2 years (didn't really do much except for eat while I was pregnant LOL). Good for you for doing the CIBC Run!

  2. Oh my goodness, Girl! I hear ya! I ate very rich food in generous helpings over the holiday weekend. By the time the following Tuesday came around, I just wanted to have a salad. I was not sure that I could stomach another rich meal, let alone look at it. Don't get me wrong, I love my food, but when you are not used to eating so much for several days at a time, it can really hit you!

And yes, I felt as if I was actually getting heavier with each serving. Unfortunately, I was unable to sign up again for Booty Camp this month because I had started a new job. Knowing that my schedule would be so hectic for the first few weeks, I anticipated missing too many classes. I wished that I was like you and at least had Booty Camp to help burn off a good amount of what I had eaten. I must say that I have beenn good and I have started up my routine again (using the DVD) and going for runs every other day. I'll be damned if I negate the results that I worked so hard to achieve.

Christmas is just around the corner, I look forward to reading about how you maintain your exercise regimen. The pot-luck gatherings, office lunches and family dinners will come fast and furious. It will most certainly be a challenge for all of us.

    =)
